Books. I love books. My bookcase is overflowing with them, and I have hundreds more on my e-reader. So, when I heard about Independent Bookstore Day, my ears perked up like a dog who just heard her name.
This is not the first Independent Bookstore Day. It’s not the second, either. 2019 marks the fifth annual IBD. It’s celebrated the third Saturday of April.
The event takes place at indie bookstores across the United States. It’s a big party that varies by store. There can be games, live music, author readings, contests, and more. Oh, and there are books and literary items you can only get on that day.
Connecticut is having a weekend long event. One I’m pretty excited about. It’s like a scavenger hunt. Seventeen CT independent bookstores are participating. You can pick up a passport at any of these locations over the weekend. You can get your passport stamped at any of the participating locations (during their business hours). If you get your passport stamped by all the bookstores, you win a 20% off a future purchase from each store. And, you’ll be entered into the grand prize drawing. The winner of that drawing receives $50 gift certificate to each of the day 17 participating locations.
As much as I would love the coupons and the chance to win the grand prize, I don’t think I will be able to visit each bookstore because of prior engagements. But, I’m hoping to visit as many as I can, and get a cool souvenir out of it.
